Neville Goddard's Very Unusual Use of Positive Affirmations!

Neville Goddard

Neville Goddard was a British-American author and spiritual guru who wrote several books on the power of the mind, including Feeling is the Secret and the Power of Awareness.

He additionally gave popular lectures and seminars on the topic, which were later transcribed and published. Goddard's work influenced several New Thought and self-help authors who came after him, such as Wayne Dyer.

Did Neville Goddard Even Use Affirmations?

Neville Goddard didn't exactly use positive affirmations the same way most did.

Instead of believing in vacantly repeating words (which we don’t believe in either) Neville believed that if you truly felt the emotion of what you were trying to manifest, it would come to you.

Neville’s idea was that by using your imagination to feel as if you already have what you want, you will attract it into your life.

Goddard used positive affirmations in combination with visualization and meditation techniques to help him manifest his desires.

He would imagine himself as the person he wanted to be, or in the situation, he wanted to be in.

He would then feel the emotions that he would feel if he were that person or in that situation.

Neville did not believe that simply repeating the words would be enough. He believed it was essential to feeling the emotions as well.

For example, if you wanted to manifest more money, you would imagine yourself having more money and then feel the emotions that come along with having more money.

You would feel the joy, happiness, and relief that come with having more money.

You would feel confident and secure in your financial situation.

Neville Goddard believed that if you could feel these emotions, you would attract more money into your life.

How To Use Positive Affirmations Like Neville Goddard

Repeat the affirmations in your head, as you normally would. But instead of blankly repeating a statement, try to feel what it would feel like to be true.

For example, if your affirmation is “I am healthy,” instead of just repeating “I am healthy” over and over, try to feel what it would feel like to be healthy.

How would your body feel? How would your mind feel? What would your daily routine look like? The more you can feel the truth of your affirmation, the more likely you are to manifest it.

Neville would often repeat "Isn't it wonderful!" to himself, as that is a statement you would only say to yourself if something amazing happened.

He believed by putting himself in that state of mind, wonderful things would happen to him.
